Electrical / Safety Inspections

Know your home's wiring is safe.

A clear, written electrical inspection from a licensed local team. Smart before you buy or sell, and important if your older Warren-area home has never been checked.

AK Heating & Cooling electrician performing an electrical safety inspection on a home's panel

A real look at the wiring behind your walls.

Most homeowners never see the inside of their electrical panel until something goes wrong. An electrical safety inspection changes that. We check the parts that keep your family safe, from the main panel to the outlets, and hand you a written report you can actually use.

Northeast Ohio has a lot of older homes. Many were built before modern wiring standards, and some still carry knob and tube, cloth-wrapped, or aluminum wiring that was never meant to handle today's appliances and electronics. An inspection tells you exactly what you are working with.

We are a licensed Ohio electrical contractor, license #38179, fully insured, and family-owned. The same Warren-based AK team that handles HVAC and generators now does the wiring in-house, so one call gets you a licensed electrician, not a subcontractor.

What the inspection covers.

A full residential electrical safety inspection looks at the systems that matter most for safety and code. Here is what we check.

  • Main electrical panel and breakers for proper sizing, wear, and overheating
  • Grounding and bonding to confirm the system is safe and up to code
  • GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoor areas
  • AFCI protection in bedrooms and living spaces where required
  • Outlets and switches for damage, scorching, or loose connections
  • Older wiring types like knob and tube, cloth, or aluminum
  • Signs of past DIY or non-permitted electrical work
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detector placement and condition
  • Visible wiring in basements, attics, and crawl spaces
  • Exterior service entrance, meter, and weatherhead condition
  • Overloaded circuits and improper use of extension cords or power strips
  • A written report summarizing findings and recommended repairs

FAQ

Frequently asked.

When should I get an electrical inspection?

It is smart any time you are buying or selling a home, since wiring problems can affect safety and value. You should also get one after buying an older home, especially if it has never been inspected. And if you notice warning signs like flickering lights, warm outlets, or breakers that trip often, do not wait. An inspection finds the cause before it becomes a hazard.

What does the written report include?

Your report lists every system we checked, including the panel, grounding, GFCI protection, outlets, and wiring. It notes what passed and flags anything that needs attention. We separate urgent safety issues from minor items so you know what to fix first. It is written in plain language, not technical jargon, so you can use it to plan or to share with a buyer or seller.

My home is from the 1950s. Should I be worried about the wiring?

Older homes are not automatically unsafe, but they deserve a closer look. Homes from the mid-1900s and earlier may have cloth-wrapped wiring, knob and tube, or aluminum branch circuits, none of which were built for today's electrical loads. Panels in older homes are also often undersized. An inspection tells you exactly what you have and whether it needs updating.

How long does an inspection take?

Most residential inspections take one to two hours, depending on the size and age of your home. Larger or older homes with more to check can take a bit longer. We do not rush. We would rather be thorough and get you an accurate report than save a few minutes. You are welcome to follow along the whole time.

“Our restaurant walk-in went down at 6am. AK answered the after-hours line on the second ring and had us running before lunch service. We've switched all of our refrigeration work to them.”

Diane P. · Niles, OHGoogle

“Had Generac install, AC tune-up, and a humidifier swap done across two visits. One bill, one company, real techs. This is what local service is supposed to feel like.”

Trip the test button once a month

Those little GFCI outlets in your kitchen and bathroom have a test and reset button for a reason. Once a month, push test, make sure the power cuts off, then push reset. If nothing happens when you test it, that outlet is not protecting you anymore and should be checked. It takes ten seconds and could save a life.
