How do I know if my home needs to be rewired?
Common signs include flickering lights, breakers that trip often, two-prong outlets, warm or discolored outlets, and a burning smell near switches. Homes built before the 1970s are especially worth checking, since many still have knob and tube, aluminum, or cloth wiring. The only way to know for sure is an inspection, which we offer. If your home does not need a full rewire, we will tell you that honestly.
Will old wiring affect my home insurance?
It can, and this is becoming more common. Many insurers now refuse to write or renew policies on homes with knob and tube or aluminum branch wiring, because they see it as a fire risk. Some will insure the home only if the wiring is replaced. Rewiring with modern copper usually solves the problem and can lower your risk in the eyes of an insurer. We can rewire your home so it meets current standards.
Do you pull permits and get the work inspected?
Yes, always. We pull the proper permits with your local building department and schedule the required inspection. This keeps the work legal and protects you when you sell your home or update your insurance. Permitted, inspected work is the only kind we do. You should be cautious of any electrician who offers to skip this step.
How messy is a whole-house rewire?
There is some access work involved, since the wiring runs inside your walls and ceilings. We plan the job to keep openings as small and tidy as possible and we protect your floors and furnishings. We clean up as we go and at the end of each day. Most homeowners are surprised at how manageable it is when it is done by an experienced crew.
Can I rewire just part of my house?

Watch for warm outlets and switch plates
An outlet or switch plate that feels warm to the touch is a warning sign, especially in an older home. It can mean a loose or failing connection behind the wall. Stop using that outlet and give a licensed electrician a call before it becomes a bigger problem.
