Electrical / Smoke & CO Detectors

Detectors that protect the whole house.

Hardwired, interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide detectors mean when one sounds, they all sound. Our licensed electricians install them right, so your family gets every second of warning.

AK Heating & Cooling electrician installing a hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide detector

Smoke and CO protection done the right way.

A working smoke and carbon monoxide alarm is one of the most important safety devices in your home. But not all setups are equal. Battery-only alarms in one room cannot warn the whole house, and detectors more than about ten years old may not work when you need them most.

Hardwired, interconnected detectors fix that. When one alarm senses smoke or carbon monoxide, every alarm in the house goes off at the same time. That extra warning can be the difference that gets your family out in time, even if the danger starts in a far corner of the house while everyone is asleep.

AK Heating & Cooling installs these systems to code under Ohio Electrical Contractor License #38179. We are fully insured, family-owned, BBB A+ rated, and part of the AK family of companies. And because we also service furnaces and gas appliances, we understand exactly why carbon monoxide protection matters.

How we install your detectors.

How an AK Heating & Cooling visit works.

Safety work should be straightforward. Here is how we handle it.

  1. 1

    We review your home

We look at your floor plan, your existing alarms, and where your gas appliances sit. This tells us how many detectors you need and where they belong. Older homes often need more coverage than what is already on the wall.

  2. 2

    We plan for code

Ohio code calls for smoke alarms on every level and near every sleeping area, plus CO protection near bedrooms and fuel-burning appliances. We map out a layout that meets the rules and actually keeps you safe. You get a clear quote before any work starts.

  3. 3

    We wire and interconnect

Our licensed electrician hardwires each unit and links them together so they all sound at once. We add battery backup so the system still works in a power outage. Every connection is made to code under license #38179.

  4. 4

    We test every unit

Before we leave, we trigger the system to confirm every alarm sounds together. We show you how to test them and when to expect replacement down the road. Then you can sleep easier knowing the whole house is covered.

Why families trust us with their safety.

Why homeowners pick AK Heating & Cooling.

This is the kind of work where doing it right matters most. Here is why homeowners across NE Ohio call us.

We understand carbon monoxide risk

We service furnaces, water heaters, and other gas appliances every day, so we know where carbon monoxide comes from. That means we place CO detectors where they will actually catch a problem. It is the advantage of using one company for both your HVAC and your wiring.

Licensed and code-compliant

Every install meets Ohio code and is done under Electrical Contractor License #38179. We know the rules for placement, interconnection, and backup power. Your detectors will pass inspection and, more importantly, protect your family.

One company, no subcontractor

The same Warren-based team that handles your heating and generators does the wiring too. You do not have to line up a separate electrician for safety work. One call covers it.

We know older homes

A lot of Northeast Ohio homes were built before interconnected alarms were standard. We bring those homes up to today's safety code without tearing the place apart. We find the smart path through old wiring.

Local and family-owned

We are part of the AK family of companies, based in Warren and rated A+ by the BBB. We protect our neighbors' homes the way we would protect our own. That is not a slogan, it is how we work.

FAQ

Frequently asked.

How often do smoke and CO detectors need to be replaced?

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors do not last forever. Most should be replaced about every ten years, even if they still chirp and test fine. The sensors inside wear out over time and become less reliable just when you need them. If you cannot remember when yours were installed, they are probably due. We can check the dates and replace any that are past their life.

What does interconnected mean, and why does it matter?

Interconnected means all your alarms are linked, so when one detects smoke or carbon monoxide, every alarm in the house sounds at once. This matters because a fire could start in the basement while you are asleep upstairs. With standalone alarms, you might not hear the one that goes off. Interconnected alarms give everyone in the house the earliest possible warning.

Why do I need carbon monoxide detectors if I have a gas furnace?

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can leak from furnaces, water heaters, and other fuel-burning appliances. You cannot see it or smell it, which is what makes it so dangerous. A CO detector near your sleeping areas and gas appliances is your only real warning. Since we service HVAC systems, we know exactly where these detectors belong. Call us at (330) 469-6701 to get protected.

Do hardwired detectors still work during a power outage?

Yes, when they are installed with battery backup, which is how we set them up. The units run on your home's wiring day to day and switch to battery power if the electricity goes out. That way your protection never has a gap. We test the backup as part of every install to make sure it works.

Can you bring my older home up to current code?

Yes. Many older NE Ohio homes were built before interconnected, hardwired alarms were required. We can add the right number of detectors in the right spots and link them together to meet today's safety code. We do it without tearing your home apart, finding the smart route through existing walls and wiring. We hold Ohio Electrical Contractor License #38179, so the work is done right.

Clark's Tip · Power Outage Safety

Test your alarms when the power comes back

After a storm or any power outage, take a minute to press the test button on each smoke and CO alarm. An outage can drain backup batteries faster than you would think, and you want to be sure everything still sounds. While you are at it, make sure no one ran a generator or grill anywhere near the house, since that is a common cause of carbon monoxide buildup.
