Same-day across five counties
Trumbull, Mahoning, Portage, Ashtabula, and Columbiana - we dispatch out of Warren and cover all five. Most reach-in calls finish in one visit.
Prep tables, sandwich units, bar coolers, undercounter, and upright reach-ins. Most calls finish same day with the parts on the truck. Service across Trumbull, Mahoning, Portage, Ashtabula, and Columbiana counties.

Reach-in coolers and freezers carry smaller refrigerant charges, simpler controls, and lower service ceilings than walk-ins. That's why most NE Ohio reach-in calls finish in one visit: the failure pattern is predictable, the parts pipeline is solid, and the trucks carry universal motors, gaskets, capacitors, and common refrigerants. True, Beverage-Air, Continental, Traulsen, Turbo Air, Hoshizaki - all serviced.
Sixty percent of reach-in efficiency problems come down to one thing: door gaskets. Warm air bleeds past a failed gasket, the compressor runs constantly to compensate, energy bills climb, and product temperatures drift. After gaskets, the next big three are dust-packed condensers, dead evaporator fan motors, and failed defrost boards. We hit all four on every diagnostic so we don't fix the symptom and leave the cause. The Valley Mechanical Solutions team brought decades of Mahoning Valley restaurant refrigeration experience to AKHC and now reaches further with the AK back-office and 24/7 dispatch.
Full diagnostic, written quote before work begins, and most repairs done in one visit with the parts on the truck.
Five steps from the call to a working reach-in. Most calls finish same day.
Real dispatcher on (330) 469-6701, 24 hours a day. We get the symptoms on the phone and pre-stage the right parts on the truck before dispatch.
Most business-hours calls in Warren, Youngstown, Boardman, and across the Valley get a tech on-site inside 4 hours. You get a text with the tech's photo and ETA when they're rolling.
Full electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant check. Written flat-rate quote on the spot before any work starts.
Repair happens that visit if parts are on the truck (most are). System tested under load, pull-down time verified, gaskets sealed properly.
Service record and 1-year parts/labor warranty in writing. Refrigerant additions logged on every visit for federal recordkeeping.
Trumbull, Mahoning, Portage, Ashtabula, and Columbiana - we dispatch out of Warren and cover all five. Most reach-in calls finish in one visit.
Universal evaporator fan motors, capacitors, contactors, gasket kits, defrost timers, common refrigerants - all on every commercial truck. Brand-specific control boards order next-day.
Every tech 608 Universal certified on R-404A, R-407A/C, R-448A, R-449A, R-290 (propane in newer self-contained), and the rest. Refrigerant additions logged on every call.
The Valley Mechanical Solutions team is now AKHC's commercial refrigeration crew. Decades of Mahoning Valley restaurant work, the same trucks, the same techs, the same response.
Written quote before any wrench turns. No hourly billing, no "oh we found another issue" mid-job creep.
Family-owned, locally accountable. If the repair doesn't hold, you call the same number - we make it right.
On many reach-ins yes - dart gaskets snap into the magnetic channel and a confident kitchen manager with the right OEM part can do it in 20 minutes. But on screw-in gaskets, multi-section door units, or any door where the gasket has been replaced wrong before (warped frame), get a tech. A bad gasket job is worse than the bad gasket - condensation builds inside the door, hinges rust, and now you have a $700 door instead of a $80 gasket. We'll quote a gasket swap fast and tell you straight if you can DIY it.
More than people think. Reach-in condenser coils sit at floor level or just below the door, sucking in line dust, food particles, and prep flour all day. A coil packed with dust forces the compressor to run hot and the unit to run constantly. Restaurants that clean their reach-in condensers monthly get 12-15 years out of a unit. Restaurants that never clean them get 6-8 years.
Usually one of four things: door gasket failed (warm air bleeding in), condenser coil packed with dust, refrigerant low from a leak, or the thermostat/temperature controller is failed. A running unit that never reaches set point is also classic for a partial restriction in the system (kinked cap tube or partly plugged filter dryer). We check all four in one visit.
Significantly. Energy Star reach-ins from 2020+ use 30-50% less energy than 2010-era units, thanks to ECM evaporator fan motors, LED interior lights, better foam insulation, and tighter gasket designs. On a high-use prep cooler running 24/7, the energy savings alone can pay back the new unit in 3-5 years. We give honest repair-vs-replace numbers - no commission pressure either way.
Footprint and capacity. Undercounter coolers fit under a 36-inch worktop, hold 2-7 cubic feet, and are common in bars, espresso stations, and prep lines where space is tight. Upright reach-ins are 25-50 cubic feet typically, full-height, designed for high-volume kitchen storage. Both run on the same refrigeration principles; both fail in the same ways; both get fixed the same way - we service all of them.
Commercial-grade reach-ins (True, Beverage-Air, Continental, Traulsen, Turbo Air) typically run 12-15 years with regular maintenance, 8-10 without. The compressor is usually what gives up first. Cabinets, doors, and shelving last decades if you keep gaskets tight and the condenser clean. Low-end import units often die at 5-7 years - if you have one and it's failing, replacement with a commercial-grade unit almost always wins.
Common-failure parts for the major brands - True, Beverage-Air, Continental, Traulsen, Turbo Air, Hoshizaki - ride on our trucks. Universal evaporator fan motors, gasket kits, capacitors, contactors, and defrost timers cover 90% of repair calls in one visit. Brand-specific control boards or door assemblies typically order next-day from our parts pipeline.
Same-day dispatch from our Warren shop across five counties.
“Furnace went out on a Sunday night. AK had a tech in the driveway in 90 minutes, parts on the truck, and we were warm before kids' bedtime. Worth every dollar of the maintenance plan.”
“Our restaurant walk-in went down at 6am. AK answered the after-hours line on the second ring and had us running before lunch service. We've switched all of our refrigeration work to them.”
“Had Generac install, AC tune-up, and a humidifier swap done across two visits. One bill, one company, real techs. This is what local service is supposed to feel like.”
Sixty percent of reach-in efficiency problems are gasket-related. The test: close a dollar bill in the door, then try to slide it out. If it pulls free easily, the gasket is leaking. Do this on every door, every month. A failed gasket is a $40-80 part that, ignored, kills compressors and doubles your electric bill on that unit. If daylight is visible at the seal, you're losing 20% efficiency right there.
