Residential / Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality for NE Ohio homes.

Humid summers, bone-dry winters, Zone 1 radon risk, and a housing stock built before mechanical ventilation was a thing. We fix what each home actually needs - no upsell stack on a home that just needs a better filter.

NE Ohio gives you the worst of both seasons.

Summer outdoor humidity in the Mahoning Valley runs 70-80% on a regular July day. Winter indoor humidity, once the furnace has been running for a few weeks, drops to 15-25% - drier than most deserts. Layer in Ohio's EPA Zone 1 radon designation, a housing stock dominated by pre-1940 builds in Warren and Youngstown, and tight modern homes in Howland, Boardman, and Canfield that trap everything indoors, and you've got a region where indoor air quality genuinely matters.

There's no single product that solves all of it. Air purifiers handle particles and pathogens. Humidifiers fix winter dryness; dehumidifiers fix summer mugginess and finished-basement damp. UV-C kills what gets past the filter at the coil. Duct cleaning is over-marketed and rarely needed - but when it is needed (visible mold, vermin, post-renovation), the cheap $99 special isn't what you want. We tell you which one (or two) actually applies to your home and skip the rest.

  • Target indoor humidity 30-50% year-round - check it with a $15 hygrometer
  • MERV 8-11 covers most homes; 13+ if anyone has allergies or asthma
  • True HEPA hurts residential airflow - we use HEPA-grade media or bypass HEPA instead
  • UV-C lamps need annual bulb replacement - output drops 15-20% per year even when lit
  • Duct cleaning is rarely worth it - only after documented mold, vermin, or major renovation
  • Every install integrates with your existing HVAC system - no second air handler required
  • Family-owned, Warren HQ, NADCA-process when duct cleaning is actually warranted

“Furnace went out on a Sunday night. AK had a tech in the driveway in 90 minutes, parts on the truck, and we were warm before kids' bedtime. Worth every dollar of the maintenance plan.”

Mark D. · Warren, OHGoogle

“Our restaurant walk-in went down at 6am. AK answered the after-hours line on the second ring and had us running before lunch service. We've switched all of our refrigeration work to them.”

Diane P. · Niles, OHGoogle

“Had Generac install, AC tune-up, and a humidifier swap done across two visits. One bill, one company, real techs. This is what local service is supposed to feel like.”

Track it with a $15 hygrometer

Pick up a cheap digital hygrometer from any hardware store and set it on a shelf in the main living area. The 30-50% relative humidity range is the comfort sweet spot - skin, wood floors, breathing, sleep, even the piano stays in tune. If your reading sits below 30% all winter or above 55% in summer, that's the signal you need a whole-house humidifier or dehumidifier - not a guess, real data.
